The Observer Newspaper and Digital media

The Observer newspaper also publishes articles on the internet, websites such as twitter allow users to create a profile and post information such as this article about travel during the Covid-19 pandemic from the UK. Semi-political, informative journalism is very common with the observer newspaper.

Opinion pieces are also not an uncommon with The Observer's regular broadsheet publishing however there seem to be more of them published on their Twitter profile than I would expect to see in their printed papers. This article is daring in the way that it criticises it's own home country of publishing by comparing government support in Scandinavia and the United Kingdom.

A captivating headline and worrying issue is presented in this article, which discusses how foodbanks are burdening increased stress as demand rising due to the cost of living crisis in the United Kingdom. The Observer often exercises its rights to freedom of expression in its journalism. Such as in this article when they discuss a downfall in the current UK government, rising costs of living, tackling political and social issues is not uncommon for The Observer to do.

Another opinion piece published on The Observer's twitter account is this article about the beginning of Facebooks decline in users. Criticising social media platforms on opposing or rival social media platforms is very common online and may be The Observer's way of interacting with a younger demographic in a way that still tackles issues in their no-nonsense manner.

  1. Excellent classwork. You researched 5 articles that seemed to you to represent the kind of journalism that The Observer / Guardian regularly publishes. In class, you were able to say what kind of article it is and why it typifies Observer values, messages and audiences.
