FILMING AN OPENING SEQUENCE
Today in media we focused on opening film sequences and different uses of them in different films across every genre. We researched sequences by watching a collection of three opening sequences and analysing the techniques that they used. All the opening sequences used a type of shot known as a Rostrum shot which is a top down shot (see an unedited example from our work below).
Our Rostrum shot and intro sequence as a whole focused on China and Russia with an overall hint towards the Cold War and inter-country relations such as spying and espionage. This relates to our previous work on the effect of the Cold War on media. We (Matthew S, Alex W, Kai and I) decided to keep our opening sequence mysterious so that it leaves the audience curious about where the story leads, we did not introduce many characters and only one had an identity. We titled our opening sequence Communist Clash. The specific live action portions of our Rostrum table top shot directly lead into our live action shot. After filming our table top Rostrum shot we filmed our live action shot with our main character (played by Alex W.) We focused on lighting and emphasis on props from our table top shot, the USSR beret, trenchcoat, briefcase and handgun all make a feature as prominent parts of our shot. Our main character (Alex W.) recieves a briefcase from an unknown individual (Kai) in an over the shoulder shot where our main character steps from dim ominous lighting into a stream of light as he recieves the briefcase and shoots the individual, the kind of betrayal foreshadowed by having our main character in such lighting. (See the unedited shot below).
This is where we ran out of time to continue our work, we will complete the post production of the opening sequence of Communist Clash (the title of our work) in the next two lessons. I will post the completed opening sequence once post production is finished, below I have attached a rough first draft of the final opening sequence. Thanks for reading!

Attached below is the second iteration of the Communist Clash intro sequence, I have changed the font to be the same across all the text. I am still thinking of other ways of implementing the credits.

To look more professional, cut words like 'by' and 'starring" and 'special thanks to' from credits. Just have DIRECTOR JAGGER COOPER DOUBELL

I am so pleased to see this finished version of your film opening title sequence. Very well done: well filmed, smooth camerawork, excellent integration of sound and titles, with convincing live action sequence at the end.
